One of the main tricks employed by Li Hongzhi to exercise mind control over the Falun Gong practitioners is to promote the worship of him as the founder of the evil cult. He claims that he is the "God" with boundless "magic power", and that as long as the Falun Gong practitioners "cultivate" to a certain extent, they can “ascend to high levels", "eliminate karma and dispel diseases", and finally "reach consummation" with the help of “Master”. Being deceived by Li Hongzhi, many people have paid a painful price for their obsession with Falun Gong. Li Jinhua (a pseudonym), a woman from Fangchenggang city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is such a victim of the Falun Gong cult. Due to her physical discomfort, Li Jinhua practiced Falun Gong and quit her job. Gradually, she fell into the quagmire of the evil cult of Falun Gong, and she was punished by law finally.
She was deceived into believing in Falun Gong to cure her illness
In 1997, Li Jinhua's rheumatoid arthritis and frozen shoulder became more and more serious. Her legs and feet were weak, and her fingers were crooked. She sought various kinds of medical treatment without any improvement. At that time, her friend Wu Li (a pseudonym) was suffering from cervical hyperplasia. One day, when Wu Li met Li Jinhua at a vegetable market, she told Li Jinhua that she had been practicing Falun Go, and she touted Falun Gong as a miraculous exercise. Besides, she gave Li Jinhua a book called Zhuan Falun for her to read.
After hearing what Wu Li had said, Li Jinhua got curious about Falun Gong because her condition deteriorated. In the beginning, Li Jinhua paid little attention to the book Zhuan Falun, leafing through it only when she was free. Sometimes, she went to the park to practice Falun Gong in her spare time. After some time, Li Jinhua felt she was in a better mood and health than before due to her regular, daily exercise. However, Li Jinhua attributed the improvement of her health to practicing Falun Gong, so she began to read the Falun Gong book carefully. Gradually, she became obsessed with the heretical fallacies preached by Li Hongzhi, such as "eliminating karma" and "reaching consummation”. Li Jinhua said, "The book says that Falun Gong can help people improve health, eliminate illnesses and avoid disasters and that people can reach consummation when they practice to a certain level.”
Li Jinhua, who got more and more obsessed with Falun Gong, not only practiced it herself but also persuaded her sisters to follow her suit. Later, she lost her job because she concentrated on her practice every day with no interest in doing her job.
Her father was so enraged by her obsession with Falun Gong that he died of illness
To achieve a “True Fruition” early, Li Jinhua spent all her time practicing Falun Gong every day. As Li Jinhua and her sisters were so crazy about Falun Gong, her parents, husband, and relatives took turns persuading her and her sisters to quit the evil cult and resume their normal life as soon as possible. However, Li Jinhua turned a deaf ear to her family’s advice and even lost her temper with them, which brought conflicts to the otherwise harmonious family relationship. Seeing his daughters who were all addicted to Falun Gong ignoring his advice, Li Jinhua’s father was so heartbroken that he finally fell ill.
In July 1999, the State government banned Falun Gong per the law, and unveiled various bloodshed cases concerning the mind-poisoning and life-killing cult of Falun Gong, and exposing its evil nature against humanity. However, under the influence of Li Hongzhi, Li Jinhua expressed her dissatisfaction with the government. On November 18, 1999, being incited by "instructions" issued by the Falun Gong organization overseas, Li Jinhua went to Beijing with her fellow practitioner to “clarify the truth”. "At that time, I felt very puzzled, unable to understand why it was wrong to practice Falun Gong since it could let people improve health, eliminate karma, ascend to high levels, and believe in ‘truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance’. I couldn’t accept it had been prohibited by my work unit and outlawed by the State government. I have to figure it out," Li Jinhua recalled. Although her father was taken ill because of anger and in a serious condition, Li Jinhua didn't care about it at all and instead, she went to Beijing on several occasions to "clarify the truth".
In desperation, Li Jinhua’s husband filed for divorce with her. However, neither the breakup of her marriage nor the illness of her father made her come to realize her error. On the contrary, she felt that since she had now completely abandoned her family affection, she could continue to pursue Falun Gong. She purchased Falun Gong books and materials through illegal channels and went to Beijing again to "clarify the truth" in collusion with other Falun Gong members. In that same year, Li Jinhua's two elder sisters and two younger sisters were finally punished by law for illegally disseminating Falun Gong CDs and reactionary propaganda materials. Meanwhile, Li Jinhua’s father, whose health went from bad to worse due to his daughters’ obsession with Falun Gong, died in the end.
She finally awakens to the fact that Falun Gong is devoid of conscience
"Master told us to practice true cultivation and become a good person instead of getting involved in politics, but isn’t it an act of involvement in politics if we make trouble in Beijing? Falun Gong teaches ‘truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance’, but in reality, it tells us not to help the disabled, saying that helping them is harming them. Isn't that a contradiction between words and deeds? ”said Li Jinhua, who has now come to realize the truth.
Under the patient persuasion of the anti-evil-cult volunteers, Li Jinhua finally broke through the barrier in her heart. "One day, when I saw two lines of words posted on the wall, 'Listen to Your Heart with Sincerity; Warm Your Heart through Companying,' I had an idea to test the volunteers to see if they truly listened to me sincerely," Li Jinhua said. What she hadn’t expected was that the volunteers listened to her with sincerity without feeling bored at all. Little by little, she opened her heart and told them about her experience all these years since she got obsessed with Falun Gong. The anti-evil-cult volunteers told her: many Falun Gong practitioners who had come to realize the truth denounced Li Hongzhi without suffering any reprisals from Li Hongzhi's so-called "Law Body", and tens of thousands of people in the society who opposed Falun Gong lived a happy life too.
Li Jinhua understood the truth completely: "From the very beginning, we fell into Li Hongzhi's well-designed trap. The Falun Gong practitioners had all been deceived by him. He instructed us to study and spread the so-called ‘Fa’, and even instigated tens of thousands of kind-hearted people to stage a sit-in in front of the government office buildings to demonstrate against the government. What Li Hongzhi had done was pushing us down the wrong path and against the general public to achieve his ulterior motives." Li Jinhua was also shocked by the fact that Li Hongzhi not only stirred up trouble but also amassed enormous wealth through Falun Gong.
After getting rid of the obsession with Li Hongzhi and his Falun Gong, Li Jinhua felt a great relief. She said sadly, "Originally, I wanted to be a good person by practicing Falun Gong, but I never thought that the result was the complete opposite to what I had wished. I regret the harm I have done to the country, society, and my family by abandoning my family and violating the law to practice Falun Gong."
